Jorge Luis Prats

Jorge Luis Prats Soca is a Cuban pianist who resides in Spain. Prats Soca was born in Camagüey. He studied piano from 1963 with Barbara Díaz Alea. In 1970, he was accepted into the National School of Art, from which he graduated in 1976.

He studied with Frank Fernández and Margot Rojas Mendoza. In 1977, Prats won first prize at the Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition in France. He later he studied with Rudolf Kehrer in Moscow, Magda Tagliaferro in Paris, Paul Badura-Skoda in Vienna and Witold Małcużyński in Warsaw. He was awarded several decorations in Cuba, including the Felix Varela medal (Cuba's highest award in culture) in 1984 and the Cuban National Music Award in 2004. He was artistic director of the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra until 2004.

In 2004, Prats left Cuba for the opportunity to travel. He settled in Spain and in 2005 he became a naturalized Spanish citizen.
